Bardsey Bird & Field Observatory Founded in 1953 BBFO is the only fully accredited observatory in Wales. The only sizeable Welsh offshore island in the north, Bardsey is also the most beautiful and diverse.

Powdermill Nature Reserve One of the best ringing (banding) sites on the web. Located in the Allegheny Mountains Section of the Appalachian Plateau Province of Pennsylvania in the USA, this reserve is a centre for education and research. Full of stunning photo's and interesting data. Check out the photo archive for some interesting shots of birds in the hand, moult and unusual species.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) The RSPB works for a healthy environment rich in birds and wildlife; it depends on the support and generosity of others to make a difference.

Joint Nature Conservation Committee
An important part of JNCC's work concerns species conservation. This includes giving advice on UK policy and legislation regarding species, as well as commissioning and supporting surveillance and monitoring schemes to assess and report upon the changing status of species in the UK.

Newbury Ringing Group
has been operating in west and central Berkshire, UK, since 1966 and their web site has details of their projects and results, including a reedbed CES site which has been running continuously since 1993.

Swale Wader Group is an informal group of amateur birdwatchers and ringers (banders) who study the waders and other birdlife of the Swale in North Kent, UK.

Merseyside Ringing Group Members of Merseyside Ringing Group study wild birds through ringing them, mostly in the counties of Cheshire, Merseyside, Flintshire and Denbighshire in North West England and North Wales. Kent Ornithological Society The Society was founded in 1951 with the following aims: a. to study and record all aspects of the avifauna of Kent; b. to co-operate with national ornithological and other bodies in scientific ornithological inquiries; c. to promote increased interest in ornithology in Kent; d. to support conservation of bird life in the county.

Dungeness Bird Observatory The aim of this site is to promote and share information and records with all people interested in the natural history of this unique habitat.

Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory is located on the South East coast of the UK. It lies between Deal and Dover to the South and The Isle of Thanet to the North. The sandhills have attracted naturalists to study the rich flora and fauna of the area, a stretch of coastal dunes unique in the County of Kent and recognised as being of the highest scientific and amenity value.

Portland Bird Observatory An independent organisation and a UK registered charity. Catering not just for birders, but for naturalists of all persuasions, accommodation in the Old Lower Lighthouse is available to anyone who wishes to stay and enjoy any aspect of the natural environment of Portland.

EURING The co-ordinating organisation for European bird-ringing (banding) schemes.

The Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW). Focuses on fundamental, strategic research into individual organisms, populations, ecological communities and ecosystems.

Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust is the largest international wetland conservation charity in the UK. Founded in 1946 by the artist and naturalist Sir Peter Scott (1909 - 1989), WWT has 9 visitor centres around the UK, where people can get closer to wetland birds and enjoy spectacular wetland landscapes.

Countryside Survey 2000 This is a major audit of the British countryside. It has involved both detailed field observations and satellite imagery which has provided a complete land cover census for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The Mammal Society The mission of the Mammal Society is to work to protect British mammals, to halt the decline of threatened species, and to advise on all issues affecting British Mammals. We study mammals, we identify the problems that they face and we advocate conservation and other policies based on sound science.
