Almost without exception the groups catches of Black-headed Gulls were made in the months of December through to February and it is clear from the distribution of recoveries and controls, that the birds wintering in the Dartford area originate, in the main, from countries bordering the Baltic Sea; most of these birds had originally been ringed as chicks. Adult birds ringed by the group and recovered abroad featured a substantial number ringed as adults that were shot when taking food from fish or fur farms in Feno-Scandinavia.
